Hanks, David A.

David Allen Hanks (1940-) is a curator and scholar. He specializes in 19th and 20th century decorative arts. He also holds interests in architecture, specifically Frank Lloyd Wright and Louis Comfort Tiffany.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in 1962 and a Master of Arts in 1965, both from Washington University. He has worked at several museums including the Art Institute of Chicago, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. He is currently the president of David A. Hanks & Associates Inc., a decorative-arts consulting company founded by Hanks in 1980.
He has authored and co-authored several books including The Decorative Designs of Frank Lloyd Wright (1979), Innovative Furniture in America from 1800 to Present (1981), Frank Lloyd Wright: Preserving the Architectural Heritage-Decorative Designs From the Domino’s Pizza Collection (1989), and American Streamlined Design: The World of Tomorrow (2005).

Laurel Fletcher Hodges held many roles in the early days of the Art Association of Indianapolis. She was a Vice-President who served almost every term from 1883-1909, with two stints as a secretary from 1893-1902. She remained on the Board of Directors until her death in 1923. In or around 1919 she published a memoir titled Her Early Indianapolis.
