The IMA Alliance Records document the philanthropic efforts of the Alliance of the Indianapolis Museum of Art over the course of more than 50 years, through multiple retail initiatives, events like the Fine Arts Ball, and other activities. As a collection of original records produced by the Alliance, it chronicles the history and inner-workings of one of the most prolific fundraising groups in the United States. The collection has been organized into eight series described below.
Sans titreThe J. Ottis Adams Papers Addition includes three scrapbooks containing clippings, ephemera, correspondence, and photographs of the artist’s home and studio. The first and second scrapbooks document the artist’s professional life between the periods of 1891-1927 and 1895-1904. The final scrapbook was assembled by the artist’s family and contains additional material and notes related to the artist’s life, dated between 1901 and 1967. A letter from the St. Louis World’s Fair Department of Art (1904) is also included.
Sans titreThe Marie Webster Study Collection contains both professional and personal materials that document Webster's career as a quilt designer. A majority of the items in the collection date between 1911 and the 1920s, with a few earlier items like photographs and a scrapbook that documents her later life. Many of the quilt patterns and templates in the collection connect to finished pieces found in the museum's permanent collection.
Sans titreThe Percival Gallagher Papers document the personal and professional life of prominent landscape architect and partner of the Olmsted Brothers firm. In addition to research materials collected over the course of his life, Gallagher saved memorabilia from all aspects of his life, from handwritten notes about landscapes and gardens to travel souvenirs.
In 2015, the IMA Archives digitized all of the photographs and select manuscript material from Gallagher's papers. The digitized collection has been made available online through the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Digital Archives Portal.
