The IMA Archives Exhibition Records document the planning and execution of exhibitions created by and/or held at the Art Association of Indianapolis, the John Herron Art Institute, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art starting in 1883 and continuing through the present day. This collection is ongoing, as the Indianapolis Museum of Art continues to create new exhibition records each year. Individual exhibition files may include checklists, exhibition catalogs, installation photography, correspondence, press clippings, curatorial research files, shipping, receiving, and lending records, and other documentation. A file and listing have been created for every exhibition, regardless of whether any archival material survives. File listings with "[empty]" indicate that there is no archival material available for the exhibition. Many early exhibitions do not have any surviving archival documentation. This is an ongoing project to process these exhibition records, starting with the earliest records.

The Papers of Onya La Tour document the personal and professional life and associations of the art collector, dealer, and museum founder from Brown County, Indiana. The archival collection came to the Indianapolis Museum of Art when her personal collection of art was transferred to the museum. The collection has been divided into six series which are described below.
La Tour, Onya (1896-1976)The Wilbur D. Peat Research Papers contain materials related to Peat’s articles, books, lectures, and classes predominantly from the years 1935-1958. The collection includes notes and index cards on Indiana artists and collectors, article clippings, bibliographies, exhibition catalogs, photographs of artworks, and correspondence with art collectors, curators and artists’ families. The materials contain extensive notes relating to a number of Peat’s books including Pioneer Painters of Indiana, Indiana Houses of the Nineteenth Century, Chinese Ceramics of the Sung Dynasty, and Portraits and Painters of the Governors of Indiana, 1800-1943. A portion of this collection, relating to Pioneer Painters of Indiana, has been digitized in partnership with IUPUI University Library made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Indiana State Library.
